Hi. Let’s have a look at some robotic lawn mowers. Yes, the future is here and you have been replaced by a robot. And some very cute little robots they are!
Still, if this means you can grab a beer, put your feet up and watch the game, instead of having to mow the lawn yourself, then bring on the robots! Yard work is somewhat overrated anyway, right? Let’s take a look at one of these robotic lawn mowers.

Worx Landroid Robotic Lawn Mower
This offering from Worx looks pretty good. The Worx WR140 Landroid is a 20 volt popular robotic lawn mower model sold on Amazon.com. The well known Worx brand makes a whole host of other tools as well. The black and orange casing looks very sturdy and workmanlike. Reminds me of a Boss guitar overdrive pedal. And of course it has a cool name to boot – Landroid! All your lawns now belong to us!
Of course having a cool name is no measure of performance. Let’s try to list some features and see what it is all about.

More about the Features
So how do you get it to cut the lawn all by itself then? How does the little guy know when and where to cut?
First you have to set up the charging base. The charging base utilizes the same battery as many of the other Worx brand 20-and 40 volt power tools. Next you can lay down the boundary wire which will act as a fence to denote no-go zones. These include areas of lawn you don’t want it to mow.
You can then measure your lawn with the Landroid app and set the mowing schedule. You can update this schedule when you need to via the app, plus check mowing progress. When it gets low on power it will automatically return to the charging station. It won’t mow the same area twice, even though it may seem to be mowing somewhat random. In either case it will completely mow its designated area in the space of a week.
The Landroid will apparently squeeze into places other robotic lawnmowers struggle to reach, like narrow passageways. It can also mow up 20 degree inclines.
Upgrades and customizing
You can add an Anti-Collision system on top of the Landroid to help it avoid obstacles by being able to “see” stuff 5 inches high and 8 inches in front of its “face”. This is an upgrade of the built-in bump-collision system.
The anti-theft upgrade GPS device is called Find my Landroid. The device uses cellular data to track and lock down your Landroid if it’s taken from its mowing area.
Another thing you can add is the Off Limits digital fencing. This makes the need for laying physical boundary wire around certain obstacles or areas that you don’t need the robotic lawnmower to mow unnecessary.
You can also add a WiFi extender to help your WiFi router to reach far off places in your yard (like the coast of Japan). This ensures that the Landroid will always stay connected to the router.
A snazzy robotic lawn mower garage is sold separately, to give your little busy bee mower a roof over it’s tired little head.
Some Questions and Answers
How well does it handle the edges of a lawn?
The Landroid has an offset cutting disc that does a decent of job lawn edges. This leaves not that much for you to tidy up afterwards.
Can I set the height it cuts the grass at?
Yes, it has cut height adjustment. It is adjustable in 0.4 inch increments from around 2 -3,5 inches in height.
What keeps someone from stealing the Landroid?
Find my Landroid GPS is available as an upgrade device to track and shut down your robot lawn mower if it is removed from its preset surroundings. Not to be confused with the Find my Landlord app I am currently developing. He never seems to be around to fix that leaky tap.
How do I keep its software up to date?
By updating the Landroid mobile app.
Do I need to assemble the charging station?
Yes, you do need to assemble it.

Some Final Thoughts
I would think the main thing one scores with having a robotic device mow your lawn is that it saves you the time and repetitive drudgery of doing it yourself, month after month. Plus a gadget like this is not only practical, it is pretty cool tech as well.
Thanks for reading my robotic lawnmower post. All the best to you!
